Carlo Giuseppe Oddone (1930)

Carlo Giuseppe Oddone (1866–1935) was one of the most important Italian violin makers of the early twentieth century and an outstanding representative of the Turin school of violin making. After training under Gioffredo Rinaldi, he worked in London for Frederick William Chanot before opening his own workshop in Turin in 1892. His instruments take their lead from the classical models of Stradivari and Guarneri, yet bear an unmistakable signature of their own. They are characterised by carefully selected tonewoods, precise workmanship, a high-quality varnish and a powerful, well-balanced tone. Thanks to their outstanding craftsmanship and excellent tonal qualities, Oddone's violins, violas and cellos are sought-after collector's and concert instruments worldwide today, and they rank among the most important works of modern Italian violin making.
